Account Manager

GENERAL FUNCTION: Manages assigned landscape maintenance accounts within the Branch. Acts as primary point of contact with account clients. Schedules work and manages landscape maintenance staff assigned to accounts. Develops/provides bids and proposals to clients and/or Business Development Manager.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  1. Create budgets for clients annually. Ensure contract specifications are met and that work is appropriately documented. Respond to client needs and schedule work accordingly. Provide timely updates to Contract Administrator to maintain Branch database.
  2. Schedule work to meet contractual specifications and established labor budgets. Direct irrigation operations for client base. Coordinate landscape maintenance staffing with Branch Manager.
  3. Supervise the work of all landscape crew members within assigned client projects. Ensure that all assigned staff receive safety training and on-the-job training. Manage employee performance, providing clear expectations and timely feedback. Conduct regular performance appraisals; recommend pay changes, promotions, demotions and other employment status changes. Make recommendations for employee participation in classes, seminars, certification, etc., in accordance with Signature’s commitment to employee development.
  4. Ensure that materials (tools, fertilizers, etc.) are available on time and in quantities needed for assigned crews. Ensure that all trucks and equipment used by assigned crews are properly maintained and in good working order. Communicates equipment needs to Branch Manager, as appropriate.
  5. Contribute to Company sales and growth objectives. Assess landscape needs of existing and potential clients; develop bids and proposals for landscape renovations, enhancements and horticultural services. Forward sales leads to Business Development Associates assigned to the branch unit appropriate to the geographical area of the prospective client. Assists Branch Business Development departments with preparation of labor budgets for proposals.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Advise Branch Manager as appropriate regarding staffing needs, client issues and extensive or unusual repair needs.
  2. As a key staff member of the Company, ensure that all communication and actions reflect Signature’s values and standards.
  3. Ensure that staff understand and Company rules, goals and objectives.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Valid Washington State Driver’s License, and acceptable driving record
  • Commercial Pesticide Operator’s license
  • Landscape Industry Certified Technician or Certified Professional Horticulturalist
  • Demonstrated experience in successfully managing labor budgets, staff and operations
  • Proficient in Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Demonstrated ability to put together bids/estimates and proposals for landscape projects.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Certified Landscape Irrigation Auditor
  • Certified Arborist
  • Eco PRO Certified Sustainable Landscape Professional
  • Proficient in Spanish

Crew Member I (Landscape Maintenance or Landscape Construction)

GENERAL FUNCTION: Under the daily supervision of the Crew Lead, the maintenance crew member maintains landscapes, using tools, materials and equipment as directed. Maintains tools and equipment, as assigned. Uses predetermined procedures in the field, to assure work is completed within Signature’s quality, productivity and safety standards and guidelines.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  1. Prepare equipment for the day; load trucks and trailers with landscaping materials and equipment such as mowers, edgers, string line trimmers (“weed eaters”), backpack blowers, power hedge shears and various hand tools.
  2. Ensure that each piece of equipment is used safely and that safety features are in place and operational before use. Check gas and oil levels daily before use.
  3. Perform turf and bed maintenance as directed, including but not necessarily limited to: mowing and edging turf, weeding and raking beds, application of mulch, pruning, shearing and trimming trees and shrubs. Perform all duties in a safe and efficient manner.
  4. Collect and transport landscape debris (grass, leaves, etc.) from the job site into the truck/trailer.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Maintain personal protective equipment, landscaping tools and equipment, and truck/trailer in clean condition; report any repair needs promptly.
  2. Treat Signature employees, clients, suppliers and the general public courteously, and represent Signature in a professional manner during work hours, on job sites and at work-related events.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Within 30 days of hire, must demonstrate proficiency using 21”, 36” and 48” mowers, power edger, backpack blower and line trimmer.
  • Demonstrated understanding and follow-through observing safe work habits and observation of Signature’s safety policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to take instruction, manage time efficiently, and work independently.
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with management and co-workers.
  • Ability to constantly stand and walk on a variety of flat and inclined surfaces, including topsoil, gravel, grass and cement.
  • Ability to constantly push/pull wheelbarrows, lawnmowers, rakes and other equipment.
  • Ability to frequently lift and carry 15 – 50 pounds.
  • Ability to frequently reach between waist and shoulder height for ½ to full arm extension when raking, mowing, shoveling, and performing other maintenance tasks; and reach at knee level or below when installing plants in beds.
  • Ability to frequently bend at the waist and knees.
  • Ability to frequently handle and grasp tools, handles, plants and plant pots and containers of yard debris. Grasping machinery may require forceful gripping and exposure to vibrations.
  • Ability to occasionally crouch, twist at the back or waist, kneel, and use fine manipulation.
  • Ability to withstand exposure to dust, pollen and mulching materials, and extreme weather conditions such as snow, rain and heat and humidity.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Prior landscape maintenance experience.
  • Valid WA state driver’s license.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English.

Crew Member II (Landscape Maintenance or Landscape Construction)

GENERAL FUNCTION: Under the daily supervision of the Crew Lead, the maintenance crew member maintains landscapes, using tools, materials and equipment as directed. Maintains tools and equipment, as assigned. Uses predetermined procedures in the field, to assure work is completed within quality, productivity and safety guidelines.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  1. Prepare equipment for the day; load trucks and trailers with landscaping materials and equipment such as large (36, 48 and 52 inch) mowers, power edgers, string line trimmers (“weed eaters”), backpack blowers, power hedge shears and various hand tools.
  2. Perform turf and bed maintenance as directed, including but not necessarily limited to: mowing and edging turf, weeding and raking beds, application of mulch, pruning, shearing and trimming trees and shrubs.
  3. Collect and transport landscape debris (grass, leaves, etc.) from the job site into the truck/trailer.
  4. Ensure that each piece of equipment is used safely and that safety features are in place and operational before use. Check gas and oil levels daily before use. Responsible for sharpening mower blades and pruning tools, keep 4 cycle and 2 cycle equipment ready for use.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Maintain truck/trailer in clean condition; report any repair needs promptly.
  2. Treat Signature employees, clients, suppliers and the general public courteously, and represent Signature in a professional manner during work hours, on job sites and at work-related events.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Demonstrated knowledge, skills and experience in the maintenance of landscapes. Specifically:
    • Demonstrated knowledge, skills and experience in the safe use and maintenance of equipment typically used in commercial landscaping; and
    • Proficiency in turf maintenance, bed maintenance, pruning; and
    • Basic understanding of irrigation principles and practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to take instruction, manage time efficiently and work without direct supervision.
  • Demonstrated understanding and follow-through observing safe work habits and observation of Signature’s safety policies and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with management and co-workers.
  • Ability to constantly stand and walk on a variety of flat and inclined surfaces, including topsoil, gravel, grass and cement.
  • Ability to constantly push/pull, lawnmowers, rakes and other equipment.
  • Ability to frequently lift and carry 15 – 30 pounds; and occasionally lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to frequently reach between waist and shoulder height for ½ to full arm extension when raking, mowing, and performing other maintenance tasks; and reach at knee level or below when removing weeds.
  • Ability to frequently bend at the waist and knees.
  • Ability to frequently handle and grasp tools, handles, plants and containers of yard debris. Grasping machinery may require forceful gripping and exposure to vibrations.
  • Ability to occasionally crouch, twist at the back or waist, kneel, and use fine manipulation.
  • Ability to withstand exposure to dust, pollen and mulching materials, and extreme weather conditions such as snow, rain and heat and humidity.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid WA state driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English is preferred.
  • Prior experience overseeing the work of others.
